How Your Conditioner Bar Actually Works -> Let’s Talk About BTMS-50
If you’ve tried conditioner bars before and been disappointed - like with no detangling effect, waxy buildup, the whole thing? Then we need to talk. The problem isn't the bar; it's the formula.
Not all conditioner bars are built the same, and the ingredient that makes or breaks them is the conditioning agent. Ours uses BTMS-50 (behentrimonium methosulfate) and this one matters.
What is BTMS-50?
BTMS-50 is a premium conditioning agent derived from rapeseed oil. It’s what gives your hair that silky, detangled, just-left-the-salon feeling. It provides slip (the kind that lets a wide tooth comb glide through curly hair without a fight!) and rinses clean without leaving residue behind.
It’s biodegradable, gentle, and a truly effective conditioning agent available in natural formulation. Really popular in the clean beauty world for good reason.
Wait, does “methosulfate” mean it’s a harsh sulfate?
No! If you've been avoiding sulfates (think harsh SLS), this ingredient sounds concerning. The sulfates people avoid in shampoo (like Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) are aggressive detergent cleansers that strips scalp. BTMS-50 has “methosulfate” in the name because of its molecule shape, which is different than how it actually works on the skin barrier. It doesn’t cleanse, strip, or lather. It conditions. Same word, completely different molecule.
Why does this matter for your hair?
Because a conditioner bar built on BTMS-50 performs like your best ever bottled conditioner, just without the bottle. Ours is also pH balanced to support your hair’s natural barrier, which means every wash leaves your hair and scalp in better shape, not just temporarily coated.
I have genuinely curly hair. I can go without a comb after using this bar. That’s the real test!
Our conditioner bars are available in Lavender Mint (for normal to fine hair) and Summer Sun (for dry, thick, or curly hair), both in reusable travel tins.
