FAQs

  • Every product is formulated by Andrea Rideout and handcrafted in small batches in our Grand Valley, Ontario studio. Lavish Earth has been operating since 2014. What started as a single batch of soap is now a full line of formulation-first skincare. Small batches, consistent quality, made by a small team who genuinely cares about what goes into every formula.

  • It means ingredients are chosen for what they actually do, not for label appeal. Every ingredient in a Lavish Earth product is there for a reason, at a level where it can actually perform. No fillers.

  • Yes. All Lavish Earth products are formulated and listed in compliance with Health Canada’s cosmetic regulations. We take compliance seriously and review our formulas and copy regularly to make sure everything is accurate and appropriate.

About Lavish Earth

Ingredients

  • Both, and we’re transparent about which is which. Every listing clearly identifies whether a scent is from pure essential oils 🌿 or a premium phthalate-free fragrance oil ✨. We believe you deserve to know what you’re putting on your skin.

  • Our cold process soaps are made with sodium hydroxide, which is a necessary part of the saponification process which is the chemical reaction that turns oils into soap. There is no lye remaining in the finished bar. This is standard soap chemistry and something we’re happy to talk about openly.

  • Sodium cocoyl isethionate (SCI) is a gentle, coconut-derived surfactant and NOT soap. It produces a rich lather at a pH that’s compatible with your scalp, which is why our shampoo bars have no adjustment period and no waxy buildup. If you’ve tried a shampoo bar before and hated it, it was probably made with cold process soap. Ours aren’t.

  • Cetyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol derived from plant oils - it has nothing to do with the drying alcohols in hand sanitizer or rubbing alcohol. In our lotion and conditioner bar formulas it acts as an emollient and co-emulsifier, giving products that smooth, creamy texture and helping keep the formula stable. It’s skin barrier friendly and a sign of a well-formulated product.

  • Citric acid intercepts the reaction between soap and hard water minerals before soap scum can form. It’s doing chemistry-level work that you’ll notice on your dishes and in your sink. It also requires careful lye calculation in the formula - because it reacts with sodium hydroxide, it has to be fully accounted for or the batch won’t perform the way it should.

Sensitive Skin & Skin Types

  • Every Lavish Earth Formula is developed with sensitive skin in mind, including rosacea-prone skin. Fragrance-free options are available across most of the line for those who prefer to avoid added scent. When in doubt, check the individual listing or reach out - we’re happy to help you find the right fit.

  • Yes! Lavish Earth was built for the whole family including littles. Our bar soaps and baking soda free deodorant formulas are gentle for pre-teens and teens too. As with any product, we recommend checking the ingredient list if your child has allergies or sensitivities to ingredients. When in doubt, reach out because we are happy to help you find the right fit!

  • Very. We use glass bottles where possible, compostable paperboard tubes for lip balm and deodorant, and compostable safety seals.

When your order ships, you’ll find it packed in kraft paper and shredded kraft paper fill - no packing peanuts, no bubble wrap, no unnecessary waste. We’re always looking for ways to reduce our footprint across the whole line, from formula to on the way to you!

  • Both the tube and safety seal are fully compostable. They’ll break down in approximately 90 days in an industrial composter so toss them in your green bin!
